What is SculpSure?
Traditionally, body contouring procedures were the realm of plastic surgeons, performing procedures such as face lifts, tummy tucks, arm lifts, and breast lifts using surgical techniques. The goal of these surgeries was to reshape body parts, whether due to major weight loss or to combat the effects of aging.
Because of the risks associated with any surgery, these procedures had a risk/reward ratio that discouraged those who had only minor body contour issues. For someone who had belly fat or love handles that wouldn’t respond to diet and exercise, there was little alternative.
Recently, a few new approaches to fat removal emerged. These techniques are minimally or non-invasive, requiring no surgery and little to no recovery time. Fat-storing adipose tissue is destroyed and permanently removed from your body, and those problem areas take on new contours as the treated tissue metabolizes out of your body.

What are the new body contouring methods?
For body contouring of the abdomen, flanks, back, arms and thighs, there are two types of procedures, both designed to change the nature of the fat tissue beneath the skin in such a way that the body perceives it as damaged and begins the process of removing this tissue through the lymphatic system.
SculpSure uses laser light to warm fat tissue, or CoolSculpting which cools the fat tissue. The Spa at Shenandoah chose the laser-based SculpSure system for its advantages over cooling systems.
Treatment times are less than half that of CoolSculpting techniques, and multiple areas can be treated in a single session. The laser light used by the SculpSure system also stimulates the production of new stores of collagen and elastin, components of your skin that keep it smooth and youthful.
What can I expect during a SculpSure treatment?
The treatment portion of your appointment takes 25 minutes, once the SculpSure equipment is in place. You’ll feel a tingling sensation and perhaps a feeling of periods of intense warmth. There are no incisions or skin piercing, and you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.
You won’t notice immediate effects. These emerge at about six weeks, with maximum effects visible around 12 weeks. Some people may need multiple treatments to meet their desired goals.
