Stephanie Scheidt, MD

Stephanie graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, VA and completed both medical school and residency at the University of Virginia. She enjoys caring for women of all ages and stages of life. She also appreciates normal and natural obstetrical care.

Stephanie was proud to recieve the Special Excellence in Endoscopic Procedures Award in 2009 from the American Society of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. She hopes to continue her training in the area as she enjoys laparoscopic surgery.

Tammie McDonald-Brouwer, MSN, CNM, WHNCP

Tammie McDonald-Brouwer grew up in the Netherlands and became a US Citizen after living her in the Valley since 1997. Prior to receiving her MSN in 2009 from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in both Midwifery and Women’s Health, Tammie worked for many years as a nurse. She brings 22 years of nursing experience with the last 16 years in labor and delivery, eleven of those at RMH.

Tammie is passionate about spending time with women developing long term relationships and assisting them in achieving holistic health through all stages of life.

Melody Mast, MSN, CNM, WHCNP

Melody Mast was born in Argentina, the daughter of missionaries, where she grew up speaking Spanish. She settled in Harrisonburg and graduated from Eastern Mennonite University. She worked as a nurse at Rockingham Memorial Hospital as well as on staff at SWHC. Melody received here MSN in 2007 from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family, Nursing, based out of Hyden, KY. She is licensed as both a CNM and a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner.

Melody is passionate about caring for women of all backgrounds and walks of life.

Ann Schaeffer, MEd, CNM

Ann Schaeffer is a JMU alumnus and native Virginian, who joined SWHC in 2003. She earned a Master’s degree in Counseling form the University of Illinois, before completing her training in Nursing and Midwifery through UVA and Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. Ann’s work in women’s health has taken her to university health centers, health departments, community hospitals, birth center and homebirth settings.

Ann is especially interested in birth, healthy sexuality, and treatment of gynecological infections. Ann loves that midwifery takes a holistic approach to healthcare, and believes that every woman deserves a midwife.

Donna Schminkey, MPH, MS, CNM

Donna Schminkey, a native of Virginia joined our practice in 2000. She obtained Master’s degrees in both Public Health and Nurse-Midwifery from Emory University in 1993. She practiced Nurse-Midwifery in North Carolina and Georgia until 1999.

Donna is particularly interested in infertility evaluation and treatment, sexual health issues, evaluating recurrent gynecological infections, bleeding changes and other gynecological problems. Donna is committed to providing quality nurse-midwifery care for all women in our community.

Barbara Kirkland, MS, CNM

Barbara Kirkland grew up in White Plains, NY. She came to Harrisonburg in 1997 from Woodstock, VA. She introduced nurse-midwifery care to the Valley in 1988 and practiced in Shenandoah County for 8 years. Barbara received her MS degree from Georgetown University in 1988.

Barbara especially enjoys adolescent gynecological care and care of the perimenopausal woman.

Marty Jones, MS, CNM

Marty is originally from Harrisonburg. She came back to the Valley in 1994, bringing nurse-midwifery care to this community. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1986 with a MS degree and was certified as a CNM that year.

Marty places a high value building relationships with women over a long period of time.

Megan Cassidy, MD

Dr. Cassidy is from southern California and did her undergraduate work at UCLA, finishing there in 1998. She went to UVA for both her medical degree and residency in OB/GYN, finishing in 2007. She moved to the Valley in 2007.

Dr Cassidy’s passion is two-fold—she likes the opportunity to provide continuity of care to women throughout all life stages and she likes performing gynecological and obstetric and gynecologic procedures.

Jennifer Visger, MD, FACOG

Dr Visger is originally from Richmond, but lived in Charlottesville from 1994-2006. She is a “triple Hoo”—she went to UVA for her undergraduate degree, medical degree, and her residency in OB/GYN. She has lived in Harrisonburg since 2006.

Dr Visger likes working in an environment that provides well-rounded care—preventive, obstetrical, and surgical care. She particularly enjoys having time to educate patients about their diagnosis and treatment options.

Leonard Aamodt, MD, FACOG

Dr. Aamodt came to the Valley in 1994. He attended the University of Maryland from 1975-76 before going to Boliva from 1977-1978 for mission work with his church. He became fluent in Spanish during this time. Upon his return, he finished his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 1982, then obtained his medical degree from Baylor College in Houston, TX in 1986. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Takoma, Washington at Madigan Army base from 1986-1990 before serving a four year tour of duty at Fort Riley to fulfill his obligation to the US military.

Dr Aamodt’s passion is developing long-term relationships with his patients and becoming a part of their life and the lives of their families. His ultimate goal is to provide excellent obstetrical and gynecological care.
